Friday, February 26 2010 ABBOTT

This lovely morning, not unlike the others, came with slight confusion and chaos. The first signs of arousal came when the RV as a whole was woken up to Deja’s glorious alarm on her phone at 6 am. While everyone was trying to collect their thoughts and figure out why they were being woken up, we all unanimously (without consulting each other) decided that we would all remain in our beds and wait for another other than ourselves to turn off the alarm. In the end, it was Deja who saved us from the repetitive beeping, yet nearly killed us by having it in the first place. After that, the others in the RV peacefully returned to their slumber, while I lingered in limbo of consciousness, trying to return to the shores of sleep. While tossing and turning, I soon found out that in my sleep, Deja had pranked me by placing grapes in my bed (which I rolled over onto). I then patiently waited for everyone else to wake up and was relieved 30 minutes later when Emily knocked on the door so that I could unlock the bathroom for her and be able to stretch my legs. After doing so and refusing to go back to my bed, I decided the best idea was to take pictures of the mountains and stroll around outside. I was then hopeful after my outdoor excursion that at least one of my fellow RV members would be awake, so I soon made my way back to the RV. Alas, no one was awake though, so I returned to the outside to ponder what to do next. My next attempt for one to be awake was successful in my next round and I opened the door to see Ms. Abbott in the kitchen. This was a great relief and in that time I taught her how to receive text messages from Facebook about notifications. Soon the others woke up and it was time to make breakfast. This brings about the only unfortunate aspect about the cooking in our RV, which is Ms. Abbott’s need to cook everything with oil (any kind, vegetable or olive). After breakfast, the laundry was collected and quarters were round up to make a trip to the Laundromat (which was only a 4 second walk). Luckily, all of the washers were being used but one, so it was my job to try to stuff every article of dirty clothing we had into the single washer. With this time afterwards many dawdled, took showers, wrote in their journals, and in Ms. Meyers RV’s case: sanitize and clean their whole entire RV from top to bottom. Before long though it was time to put all the clean garments into a dryer, but unluckily it was found that all of the dryers were being used. This put a damper on our RV for it was about nearly time to go and Ms. Abbott was getting antsy about as to how we would dry our clothing. This problem was fixed though by the idea of hanging all of the attire from the inside of the RV to airdry. Following this, we went rapidly on our way to the historic town of Tombstone where the legendary Gunfight at the O.K. Corral had taken place. We were let loose when we arrived and our RV decided to stay together for a short while and check out some stores. We then remained in Tombstone for several hours, but it seemed only a short while until we were all once back onto the road again. Thankfully, we stopped at a unique Monastery to enjoy some baked goods and take a look at the thrift store that was available. I can say happily that I bought some nice $5 roller blades. It was then quite a drive to Phoenix, but our RV was entertained by the guys trying to look cool on their motorcycles and by Ms. Abbott’s fascination with how huge the houses looked on the mountain. The arrival at the KOA Kampground was a huge reprieve from the slightly cramped vehicle and the word that there was a pool on the premises spread rapidly. Everyone then enjoyed their time on the RV park and relaxed. Dinner was also a great success in our RV with Ms. Abbott cooking the first hamburgers (on the stove) she has ever cooked. It was an enjoyable day.
